Mozambique coast logistics before the beach booking
An access-first checklist for matching a Mozambique coast property to current security advice, airport, boat transfer and protected-area rules.
Mozambique's coastline is long enough that a property name and nearest airport do not complete the route. Security conditions, road access, domestic flights and boat transfers can differ sharply by province.
Check current official travel advice for the exact destination and every transit area before making a non-refundable booking. Some northern areas have carried explicit warnings because of armed violence.
Check the exact province and coordinates
Ask the property for its legal name, province, map pin and arrival instructions. A brand may describe itself by an archipelago or coast rather than the administrative location used in travel advice.
Plot the road, airport and boat departure. Check every district crossed.
Do not use a national-level summary to dismiss a specific regional warning.
Check current security advice
Consult the traveller's own government and Mozambique authorities close to booking and departure. Record the update date.
Ask the property how guests currently arrive, what routes it avoids and how it communicates a change. An operator cannot guarantee security, but it should identify its procedure.
Avoid unverified night transfers. Keep emergency contacts offline.
Check the arrival airport
Confirm the airport code, operating airline, baggage allowance and schedule on the intended date. A domestic route may not operate daily.
If tickets are separate, add a buffer after the international arrival. Confirm whether luggage is checked through.
Ask what happens if the domestic flight is cancelled and when the next service operates.
Check the boat transfer
Record the departure point, licensed operator, vessel, lifejacket provision, passenger and baggage limits and weather policy.
A tide or weather change can move the time. Do not place the return boat directly against an international flight.
For Bazaruto, use African Parks for current protected-area visitor guidance and the operator for the specific transfer.
Check road assumptions
A map estimate does not include road condition, border, ferry or fuel stops. Ask for a current local estimate and what vehicle it assumes.
If self-driving, confirm rental permission, roadside support, fuel range and insurance. Do not enter restricted or warned areas because the vehicle is capable.
Keep daylight margin and a fallback stop.
Check entry and health requirements
Use Mozambique immigration or the responsible mission for the passport's entry route. Verify visa, passport, return-ticket and health-document requirements.
Seek qualified travel-health advice for vaccinations, malaria prevention and medical planning. This checklist does not provide medical advice.
Remote properties should explain evacuation and clinic access. Read insurance exclusions for boats, diving and remote areas.
Check the protected-area rules
Marine and national parks can charge fees and restrict activities. Ask whether the fee is included and which authority receives it.
Follow rules on wildlife distance, fishing, anchoring, waste and collecting natural material. A guide should explain them before departure.
Do not buy marine products whose legal origin cannot be established.
Check the property operating model
Remote lodges may include meals and transfers because alternatives are limited. Confirm drinking water, power, communication, payment and medical arrangements.
Ask for accessibility from aircraft or boat to room. Sand, wet landings and long jetties can be decisive.
State recommendation provenance. This article is editorial research and does not claim a stay or inspection.
Check cancellation and evacuation terms
Read what happens after a security warning, airline cancellation, cyclone or medical event. The lodge, carrier and insurer can apply different conditions.
Keep each payment and cancellation deadline separate. A closed park does not automatically cancel an unrelated hotel under its terms.
Use a payment method with a record and identify the legal recipient.
Final booking gate
Proceed only when the exact location is consistent with current advice, the transport chain has a fallback and the property has answered operating questions.
Recheck advice and schedules before the free-cancellation deadline and again before departure. If conditions worsen, follow official guidance rather than a seller's reassurance.
A Mozambique coast booking begins with access. The beach room comes after the route is defensible.
Ask the property to identify its emergency communication method, evacuation provider and nearest suitable medical facility, but verify insurance acceptance yourself. An evacuation claim needs more than a statement that help can be arranged.
Register for official travel alerts where available and share the route with a trusted contact. If an authority advises against the exact area, do not treat an operator's continued sales as contrary evidence. Preserve cancellation correspondence and ask the insurer what documentation it requires. Recheck the destination and every transit district on the exact day travel begins, since a warning can be geographically narrower than the country summary. Save the dated notice.
