How we verify

The method behind the Verified badge: what we check, against which sources, and what the date on it means.

Every figure on this site carries a currency, a date and a source. This page explains what that process actually is, so you can judge how much weight to put on it.

The source order

  1. Primary and official first. Government entry portals, published park fee schedules, national airline timetables, official permit systems, regulator filings.
  2. Operator and provider published rates second, quoted as their published rate and attributed to them.
  3. Our own observation third, and labelled as such.

We do not treat another publication's figure as a source. If we cannot trace a number to its origin, we leave it out.

What the Verified badge means

A Verified badge means an editor re-checked the figures on that page against their primary sources on the date shown. It is not a claim that nothing has changed since. Prices, park fees and entry rules change without notice, and often without announcement.

The date is generated from the page's own last-updated timestamp in our CMS. It cannot be set independently of the content, which means the badge cannot be left in place on a page nobody has touched.

Estimates are labelled

Some numbers cannot be sourced, only modelled: a realistic daily budget, a typical transfer time, a shoulder-season lodge rate. These are marked Estimate, and we say what the estimate is based on. We would rather show you an honest range than a false precision.

Currency

Costs are given in the local currency first, with a US dollar figure and the date of conversion, because an undated conversion is a wrong number waiting to happen.

Re-verification

Pages carrying prices, fees, visa rules or safety information are scheduled for re-checking. Where a rule is known to be in flux, the page says so rather than implying stability.
