Affiliate disclosure
How we earn, what an affiliate link is, and the rules that keep commissions out of editorial decisions.
Last updated
Some links on this site earn us a commission when a reader books through them, at no additional cost to the reader. This page explains exactly how that works and what it does not affect.
What an affiliate link is
If you follow certain links to an accommodation, activity, insurance, connectivity or car hire provider and then buy something, the provider pays us a share of their revenue. The price you pay is the same as it would be had you gone there directly.
What commissions do not influence
- Which places we recommend, and in what order.
- What we say about them, including problems, drawbacks and reasons not to book.
- Whether we tell you a cheaper option exists. We do, including when that option pays us nothing.
Commission rates are commercially sensitive and change without notice, so we do not publish them. What matters for your trust is not the rate but the rule: the recommendation is made before the link is added, never because of it.
How it is labelled
Articles containing affiliate links carry a disclosure above the article body, before you can reach any commercial link. That is what "clear and conspicuous" means under the guidance we follow.
Why we use this model
Affiliate revenue lets the site be free to read and keeps us out of the two models that compromise travel publishing: selling trips, and selling coverage. We would rather be paid a share of a booking you were going to make anyway than be paid by the operator whose lodge we are assessing.
Who we work with
Our commercial partners are accommodation and activity marketplaces, connectivity and insurance providers, and car hire aggregators. We publish the current list on the partners page.
