Which Cabo Verde island fits your trip?
An island-selection worksheet that starts with international arrival, inter-island transport and the landscape or activity that matters most.
Cabo Verde is an archipelago, not one beach destination with interchangeable islands. The international arrival, ferry or domestic flight and the purpose of the trip should select the island before the hotel.
Visit Cabo Verde says seven of the nine inhabited islands have air service, while Santo Antão and Brava are reached by sea. That transport fact can decide a short trip.
Enter the international gateway
- arrival island: __________
- scheduled arrival time: __________
- departure island: __________
- first usable night: __________
- final airport buffer: __________
Do not begin with an island wish list. Start with the flight actually available from the departure market.
Check whether the return can leave from another island or requires backtracking.
Choose the main trip purpose
Select one priority: resort beach, wind sport, hiking, music and city life, volcanic landscape, or a quieter island stay.
Each priority uses transport and weather differently. A hiking plan needs trail and guide checks. A wind-sport plan needs a qualified operator. A resort plan may need fewer island changes.
Write the priority at the top of every accommodation comparison. Remove a property that does not serve it.
Test Sal and Boa Vista
These islands commonly appear in international beach packages. Check the exact arrival airport and transfer to the booked property.
Ask about beach conditions, wind, pool access, meal basis and transport beyond the resort. Do not infer that all coastlines offer the same swimming conditions.
A one-island stay can be the correct choice for a short flight-led holiday. It does not need an inter-island segment to count as seeing Cabo Verde.
Test São Vicente and Santo Antão
São Vicente can pair city and cultural time with the sea transfer to Santo Antão. Visit Cabo Verde states that Santo Antão is accessible by sea rather than air.
Check the ferry operator's live schedule, port transfer and return margin. Weather and operational changes can affect service.
A hiking stay on Santo Antão needs trail, guide, accommodation and onward-ferry planning. Do not place the return ferry directly against the international flight.
Test Santiago and Fogo
Santiago can support an urban, historical and wider-island route. Fogo adds a volcanic-island journey that requires another transport leg.
Check domestic flight or ferry availability on the intended dates. An island visible on a route map may not have a useful daily connection.
For hiking or volcanic areas, use current local authority and guide information. Conditions and access can change.
Add the transport chain
For each island change, record:
- operator and service number
- departure port or airport
- check-in deadline
- baggage allowance
- change or refund terms
- next service after cancellation
A ferry is not an empty line between hotel nights. Include road transfers on both sides and the possibility of a changed departure.
Price one island against two
One-island total:
- international fare
- airport transfer
- accommodation and meals
- local activities
Two-island total adds domestic transport, port or airport rides, baggage charges, another check-in and possible buffer night.
Keep prices in the charged currency with the quote date. Do not publish a permanent island-hopping average.
Check entry and visitor formalities
Use the Cabo Verde government travel portal for current entry, pre-registration, tax and health information. Check the passport rather than relying on a package seller.
Keep any approval and payment receipt offline. Verify that names and passport number match.
Entry permission does not protect a missed domestic connection. The transport chain still needs margin.
Match accommodation to access
Request the exact address, arrival method and reception hours. An island name does not show whether a property is near the port, airport, trailhead or beach used in the plan.
Ask about step-free access, backup power, water, meals and communication when relevant. Remote stays can require more self-sufficiency.
State recommendation provenance. This worksheet uses official route research and does not claim a stay or inspection.
Make the selection
Choose one island when the international gateway and priority align. Add a second only when its transport runs with enough margin and it contributes something the first cannot.
Keep the final night on the international-departure island when cancellation of the last ferry or domestic flight would otherwise lose the long-haul ticket.
The worksheet is complete when every island has a purpose and every crossing has a fallback.
Before payment, check the legal accommodation name, exact port or airport transfer, room basis and local tax. Ask whether the property will wait after a delayed ferry and what an after-hours arrival costs. Keep the carrier and property cancellation deadlines in local time.
Recheck all inter-island services after an airline changes the international flight. A move of one hour can break the final domestic connection even when every segment still operates. Save the revised chain and send the new arrival to the property.
